SHINING STAR INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AT CSW68th.

Written by Abhilasha Singh

Six students, two teachers, and school principal Abhilasha Singh from Shining Star International School embarked on an enlightening journey to the United Nations Headquarters, marking their participation in the 68th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68th session). Representing AHAM Education NGO with ECOSOC accreditation, these students showcased remarkable engagement and advocacy.

The students were part of a round table where Izza Sajjad and Vaishnavi shared the well-being practices of their school on March 14 at the Bahai Centre in New York. On March 15, Fahad, Fathima Nidha, and Azzaheer conducted an hour-long session at the Armenian Healing Centre on Happiness and the A-Z of Wellbeing. On March 16th, the Aham Team and Shining Stars were at the Tzu Chi Centre in New York, where there was a screening of the film Heal the People, Heal the Planet, produced by Ms. Knellee Bisram, founder of Aham Education, followed by a panel discussion on girls well-being, climate justice, and women's empowerment. Our school principal, Mrs. Abhilasha Singh (GSP SDG Advocate and Mentor), was part of the panel discussion.

Amidst the bustling corridors of diplomacy, Shining Stars contributed actively, partaking in panel discussions and facilitating well-being events at the UN's healing space. Their presence resonated with a profound commitment to global progress, addressing crucial issues concerning women's empowerment and societal advancement.

A highlight of their visit was the opportunity to interact with Bill Graham, a distinguished figure renowned for his valour as a veteran of the US Army and his active involvement within the UN. Such encounters enriched their understanding of global affairs and inspired them to pursue paths of impactful leadership.

This visit not only broadened their horizons but also instilled in them a sense of responsibility towards creating positive change in their own lives and the world. As ambassadors of their school and the AHAM Education NGO, these students left an indelible mark on the prestigious grounds of the United Nations Headquarters, embodying the spirit of youth-driven advocacy and empowerment.

There has never been a more important role for education in producing knowledgeable, capable, and globally aware people in a world of fast change and interrelated problems. In light of this, the story of Shining Star International School becomes an example to the ever evolving impact of learning and youth-led activism.

Shining Star, as members of the Global Schools Programme (GSP), made history by traveling to the UN Headquarters and demonstrating not only the culture of their school but also the GSP’s principles in action.

Their journey is a brilliant illustration of how education can enable young minds to become change agents in their communities and beyond when combined with active participation in global projects.
