Human Rights Day: An Experience of a Global Schools Advocate

An experience at the Sivil Düşün PASAJ Forum, written by Sümeyye Kübra Dağlı, Global Schools Advocate, Turkey

On December 9-10, I had the opportunity to attend the PASAJ Forum organized under the European Union's Sivil Düşün Program. This event brought together associations, experts, and leaders of institutions working on human rights. As a Global Schools Advocate, I was specially invited to this event due to my work and projects aimed at empowering girls in the field of artificial intelligence.

Over the course of two days, listening to various efforts in the field of human rights and learning about new legal regulations was incredibly enlightening. This event increased my awareness of human rights and motivated me to engage more deeply in this field.

One of the most valuable experiences for me was meeting Prof. Dr. Cristina Vanberghen, former Minister of Justice of Romania and an academic at the European University, who has made significant contributions in the field of artificial intelligence and digital law. Her deep knowledge in AI and digital law will greatly benefit our projects. Engaging in discussions about future projects with her was a major source of inspiration for me.

This event once again highlighted the importance of building a strong network among individuals and institutions working in the fields of human rights and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I realized anew how critical the work and legal regulations in human rights are, especially in this rapidly evolving technological era.

As a UN SDSN Global Schools Advocate, I believe that participating in such events and sharing my experiences is crucial for empowering young girls in the field of artificial intelligence. This experience has given me the motivation to work more in the areas of human rights and SDGs and has provided new ideas for our future projects.

At this point, I would like to offer a few pieces of advice to other Advocates. Do not hesitate to participate in different events. Meeting new people and exchanging ideas can bring new perspectives to your projects. Build a strong network with other advocates working in the fields of human rights and SDGs. This increases collaboration opportunities and extends the impact of your projects. Do not hesitate to share your experiences and what you have learned. This can inspire other advocates to work in similar areas. Stay open to continuous learning to keep up with rapidly changing fields like technology and law. This ensures that your projects remain current and effective. Despite the challenges you may face, remember how important your work in human rights and education is. This motivation will enhance the success of your projects.

Remember, each of us can contribute significant changes with small steps. Every effort we make in the fields of human rights and SDGs is a step towards a fairer and more equitable world.
