Global Schools and Siemens Energy to bring programming on energy and sustainable development to 3,000+ students internationally

NEW YORK (October 28, 2024) — The Global Schools Program, an initiative of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), is excited to announce a new collaboration with Siemens Energy. As part of this project, Global Schools will launch "Schools for Goal 7" in partnership with Planet Rescuers, a program that trains teachers and students on energy and sustainable development through gamified curricula.

The initiative will provide training to 100 teachers and 3,000 students, promoting active learning to accelerate local sustainable development efforts. The project offers practical, hands on experience in topics such as the energy transition, renewable energy, climate change, and sustainability, equipping the next generation with the skills needed to build more resilient societies. “Through this collaboration with Siemens Energy, we hope to create an engaging, practical, and far-reaching initiative that enhances teachers and students’ capacity to drive a global green energy transition and benefits learners around the world,” said Amanda Abrom, Director of the Global Schools Program.

Schools for Goal 7 marks a significant milestone in this collaboration, building on previous initiatives such as the "Universities for Goal 13" competition with Siemens Gamesa, the Global Schools toolkit "Integrating Sustainable Development into National Education Priorities," and the International Conference on Sustainable Development (ICSD).

“We believe that innovative education is a key driver for achieving SDG 7. Through the ‘Schools for Goal 7’ initiative, we aim to empower educators with the tools and knowledge they need to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators in renewable energy and the energy transition,” said Rocio Millan, Project Manager of STEM Programs for Societal Engagement at Siemens Energy.

Dr. Patrick Paul Walsh, Vice President of Education at SDSN and Director of the SDG Academy, remarked, “Our work with Siemens Energy to create resources for schools on renewable energy is another step in our efforts to ensure that students receive the education and training to become active leaders and be better prepared with the green skills that they need for their futures.”

Further announcements on the teacher training and SDG7 curricular resources will be available in early 2025. For more information about the Global Schools Program, media inquiries, and interview requests, please contact globalschools@unsdsn.org and visit globalschoolsprogram.org
