Written by Abigail Chifusa, Global Schools Project Officer.

Every month, the Global Schools Program (GSP) celebrates mentors who inspire and guide the next generation of educators committed to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These mentors play an important role in fostering sustainable education practices and empowering teachers and students to become change-makers.

This month, we are thrilled to spotlight six outstanding mentors:

Based in Nigeria, Ebere Chiemela is a passionate advocate for education and sustainable development, serving as a mentor for Global Schools Advocates.

Ebere’s journey began as a Global Schools Advocate in 2022, leading hundreds of K-12 students in SDG awareness and leveraging technology to solve pressing community challenges.

As a mentor, Ebere trains educators to integrate SDGs into their classrooms, equips them with resources, and advocates for sustainable education policies.

His work, grounded in community engagement, is helping shape a sustainable future by fostering a generation of students who are both informed and inspired to make a difference.

Oluwasegun Ogunsakin has been an active Global Schools Advocate for the past three years.

He envisions and implements various activities in his classroom and local community to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Currently, he mentors advocates who are working to advance the SDGs globally.

Faith Okedoyin from Nigeria, has transformed mentoring into a deeply supportive and empowering experience.

Known for her thoughtful approach, Faith takes the time to understand each advocate's unique motivations and challenges.

Through regular meetings, she shares innovative strategies for integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into classroom practices, often encouraging advocates to engage in peer-to-peer learning. This exchange of ideas and support among educators has not only bolstered confidence but also sparked new projects within schools.

Faith’s mentorship has empowered advocates to take charge, grow professionally, and drive meaningful change in their schools and communities.

As a Global Schools Advocate and Mentor, Ousmane Diallo is dedicated to promoting sustainability across all 17 Global Goals, both within my school and throughout the community.

Currently, Ousmane is co-mentoring a cohort of Global Schools Advocates who bring incredible enthusiasm to the projects they share with them. They guide them in refining their projects and provide feedback as needed. They have been fortunate to create a successful framework on WhatsApp for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, which allows for continuous support and connection among all members.

In Turkey, Ayça Özkardeş has made a significant impact as an IB-PYP Coordinator, Academic Vice Principal, and mentor with the Global Schools Program.

With over 15 years in education, Ayça believes in the power of collaboration to create a better world.

Her mentorship journey began in 2022, and she continues to inspire advocates by sharing her expertise in curriculum development, sustainable practices, and IB methodologies.

Ayça’s role as a mentor has allowed her to foster a spirit of collaboration, opening up new opportunities for educators to learn, grow, and innovate together.

Her dedication to sustainable education is evident in every step she takes to prepare students for a world that values empathy, responsibility, and action.

We are grateful for these mentors’ contributions to the Global Schools Program and look forward to witnessing the continued impact of their work.

As a Global Schools Mentor, Erkan Sagnak has dedicated himself to advancing education for sustainable development. In this role, he has collaborated with educators and institutions to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into school curricula.

His efforts have empowered students to become proactive global citizens, fostered awareness and encouraged action on pressing global issues. Through workshops, mentorship, and community projects, he has significantly contributed to promoting a culture of sustainability and responsibility among young learners.
